Welcome

Hello all,

My name is Shawn and I have been playing poker for some years now and have been lucky enough to become a successful money winner.  I play mainly tournament poker, some cash games and zero online.  I play mainly texas holdem, I will sometimes play Omaha, seven stud and Razz. In this blog I will talk about my strategy for winning, recap hands played and give advice on how I would have played a hand out if posted.

I do not claim to be a professional by any means. I do not play poker for a living (which in my opinion is what classifies you as a pro).  I do play for fun, but I play to win.  My philosify is more of an old school one.  I do not throw my chips around pre-flop, unlike most players today I actually like to play after the flop.  It seems most players today want to shove a lot of chips in before they even see a flop.  In my experience this will earn you some big pots but will end up losing you more in the long run.  I know you have all heard this before, "poker is a marathon not a sprint".  This is true.  Those players who watch on tv and see nothing but monster pots being playes and think this is what it is like in the casino do not usually fare that well.  In real life, poker is a grind.  There are far mor small pots played than those "all in" pots. It's the players that can continuously win those small pots and avoid big losses that are successful.  NOT the players that win one or two larg pots but continously lose those small ones.  Those are what I like to call the "roller coaster players".  Their stacks are always going up and down.  It is my goal to help you to not become one of these players.

In future posts I will talk about my strategy for winning consistently.  Hand values, draws, pre-flop play, post-flop play, bluffing, reading players, and mixing up your play.  I look forward to hearing some of your stories and sharing mine with you.  So until next time, good luck and see you at the final tble.
